Here our collection of Winter books. I try to find books that don’t mention Santa and are reality based to follow the Montessori principles. (If you want to read more about fantasy and reality in books, check this blog post)

From left to right, top to bottom:

  • that’s not my reindeer (not pictured but interesting too: that’s not my donkey, that’s not my snowman)
  • Susie celebrate Christmas by a local author
  • Drawing, doodling and colouring for Christmas
  • Advent calendar to colour: I bought those 2 Usborne Christmas book 3 years ago and we still use them!
  • Mog’s Christmas (reference to Father Christmas but he is not pictured)
  • Alfie’s Christmas (reference to Father Christmas)
  • The Shortest day: my favourite so far, probably more for children 5 and older. There are activities to do to understand the solstices.
  • Winter: wordless book (I’m planning to buy the 3 others in the series: Spring, Summer and Autumn)
  • Snow: the poem from Walter Delamare¬†is beautiful, the illustrations, mainly in black, white and red are beautiful too. However, I was very disappointed that they managed to add 2 full pages about Santa Claus. That part could have been skipped as the poem is about the snow!
  • The mitten (we also have the hat from the same author). I use this book as a support of many activities and even yoga sessions!

And you? What are you reading to your children?
